Manufacturing Capital

One of at least four forms of capital used by people, organizations, corporations, and governments, to build and maintain their livelihoods. Manufacturing Capital includes all material resources and energy used throughout the manufacturing process and how effectively and sustainably these are used. This includes assessing their toxicity. While these all have economic value within a company and, thus, could be considered as Financial capital, they are specific to materials and energy and their effectiveness are often overlooked within financial measures and assumptions.
Sustainable organizations seek to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency in using manufacturing capital as well as practice policies that sustain the quality and quantity of material nutrients and industrial ecologies in the future. These often have top-line benefits within the organization.
These four forms of capital are described, in detail, in the book Natural Capitalism.
